Current projects include:
- PEACE: An end to the Iraq war and prevention of future wars
of aggression through VotersForPeace.US,
which brings together voters around the voters pledge which states "I will only vote for or support candidates
for federal office who make a speedy end to the Iraq war,
and preventing any future war of aggression, a public campaign
position." VotersForPeace educates and activates the signers
of the pledge into activists to end the war. CFACP also
serves as the sponsor of the educational activities of DemocracyRising.US
which is working to end the war with actions in Washington, DC
and around the country.
- DEMOCRACY: Election integrity through TrueVoteMD.org,
with a particular focus on ensuring a voter verified paper ballot
in Maryland. TrueVoteMD.org also works with a national network
of election integrity organizations VoteTrustUSA.org.
Linda Schade and Kevin Zeese of the Campaign for Fresh Air &
Clean Politics were among the co-founders of that national network.
TrueVoteMD.org will be taking on additional democracy issues in
the coming years like Instant Run-off Voting and improved ballot
access.
After five years of work TrueVoteMD succeeded in passing legislation
and getting funding so that Maryland can transition to a system
with voter verified paper ballots counted on optical scan machines.
While there is still work to be done in Maryland, e.g., requirng
random audits on election day to ensure the optical scan count
is right, TrueVote.US
was started to educate and organize people about democracy issues
nationally beginning with the need for voter verified paper ballots.
-
ECONOMIC JUSTICE: CFACP participated in efforts to make the 2008 bailout of Wall Street good for Main Street. CFACP advocated for re-building the economy from the bottom up rather than the top down. Among the policy changes CFACP advocated for were:
- A stimulus for Main Street: Build the foundation of the real economy
- Make Wall Street speculators pay for the bailout: No more debt
- Shut down the Casino: Rein in the unregulated financial sector
- Limits on CEO pay and prohibitions on profiteering from the bailout
- Public Oversight: independent monitors to ensure the integrity of decisions
- Protect the Taxpayer: Taxpayers should get equity in firm receiving tax dollars.
- Aid the victims, not just the predators: Include provisions to protect home owners.
- ENVIRONMENT: Climate Security
is a joint project of Friends
of the Earth and Voters
for Peace to highlight the inter-relationship between
global climate change and global conflict. The concept of climate
security encompasses the relationship between climate and war
and militarism as well as economic and environmental security.
The
Climate Security Project seeks to encourage a shift from
an outmoded militarized economy to a green economy which is more
efficient, more localized and better distributes its resources
and bounty, while restoring the natural world upon which it depends.
On this site, we will provide news and information to get out
the word that a changing climate combined with the broader environmental
crisis is THE emerging threat to peace and security – not
only in the developing world but in so called developed economies.
The Campaign publishes a monthly
web newsletter summarizing the work of our projects. You
